We have just our 2nd call from Rutland House
today (17:45) and Louis’s blood count has dropped even further from this morning’s
drop, he is now at 15% and he will need another blood transfusion tomorrow.
Mr
Stevan asked us to get Olga’s blood typed at our vets which we are getting done
tomorrow morning (the lab is closed now), this is just a simple blood test so
it shouldn’t be too stressful for her. If her blood type is negative then there
is a possibility she could be a donor for Louis, however her blood would still
need to be tested outside of the body to see if it clots, they do this by
mixing a bit of Olga’s blood and a bit of Louis’s blood, if it clots then she
cannot donate as it would kill him.
If she has a negative blood type and it doesn’t
clot with Louis, then we will allow her to be a direct donor, if she has magic
blood and it helps him pull through he will never live it down!
We have therefore given the go ahead for Rutland to order
another bag of platelets to give him tomorrow but there is no guarantee the 2nd
transfusion will work, and we also run the risk that when they get the bag it
isn’t compatible for Louis, which is where Olga will come in if her blood is
compatible – it all feels like ‘if’s’ and ‘but’s’ at the moment and it’s just
heart breaking.
We asked Mr Stevan how long can Louis continue with this
treatment and he said as long as his body doesn’t reject the transfusions it
would be good to keep him on the treatment to give the drugs the full 2 / 3
weeks to get to full strength.
I’ll write another update tomorrow.
Thank you to everyone who are supporting us, and thank you
for your kinds
words.
Love Louis’s Family.
