Update on Louis

Hi Everyone, Louis’s Mum here….

I see Olga managed to get her paws on the laptop, deary me she is a bugger.
So a quick update on our handsome boy, he is eating bits of chicken, liver, ice-cream, gravy etc, not the best we know but at the moment it’s a case of just getting calories in him, so we are having to put up with the a ‘smell’ as Olga said ‘cracking a window’ is a must at the moment.

We had him back at our vets (Mr Jones) yesterday because we were worried he was getting worse, but our vet said there’s no change but he’s no worse which is a positive, and in his opinion he seemed a little brighter compared to the other day when he first saw him, so that’s something we are hanging onto.
He is still drinking although he will only drink the water when it’s fresh so yes he is wrapping us around his paws somewhat, but we don’t mind, we need to get him through this.

He’s not been out for a walk since Christmas Day, except when he’s jumped in the back of the car to go to the vets, it’s so weird and sad seeing him puffing when he’s just laid down doing nothing. He just wants to be sat next to us stroking him all the time, which of course we do.

We have been taking photos of his gums to try and see if they are starting to ‘pink up’ because we are wanting him so much to show any sign of recovery, and the reason for the photos is because we cannot trust our own judgement, but they’re not which is frustrating and worrying at the same time, although Mr Jones did say it could take a while for the steroids and medication to work on the Biliruben, which in turn will change the colour of his gums.

We have also done the silly thing of googling this condition, in the hope to try and find a reason why he’s got it and how he got it, and what we can do to help him, but there is no evidence really that explains it, it’s just bad luck, but the outcome for a lot of dogs is not good, but Louis is not a normal dog, he’s a strong boy so we all have our fingers crossed. We are willing him to pull through and he’s had lots of ‘get well’ messages from his friends, which I pass onto him.

I’ll keep posting updates.

Love Louis’s Mum xxx
