Louis's Mum here.... Louis update

Hi Everyone...

I thought I'd let you all know how Louis is doing, he has not been well over Christmas and we had him at the emergency vets on Christmas Day, who diagnosed Kennel Cough, and a high temp. He was given antibiotics and told to rest, which you can imagine we thought that would be a nightmare trying to keep him quiet, however it was clear that Louis was really poorly because he didn't want to go out. We weren't totally convinced it was Kennel Cough, because he didn't show any signs of coughing, but they are the experts so we had to accept it could be that.

We kept him quiet and tried to get him to eat, but he wasn't interested in anything, even Olga knew he was poorly because she kept trying to wash him, and she never does that.

The more we looked at Louis the more we agreed it wasn't Kennel Cough, but we thought we better let the medication get into his system before seeing our own vet, but it was clear Louis wasn't getting any better, so as soon as our own vet opened we got an appointment with Mr Jones, and took him in.

Mr Jones said he had never seen Louis looking so sorry for himself and immediately took a blood sample, we were booked in for the next day to get the results. I'll be honest I thought we were going to loose our special boy, he was so down, and didn't want to eat anything, he would only drink out of a bowl if Big John (his dad) got him fresh water and held it for him, and only then when he felt like some, which wasn't often, I was really worried he hadn't eaten anything for days, so nipped out and got him a plain Mcflurry - I know he shouldn't have them but we needed to get calories into him, if he was going to have a fight on his hands he was going to need these. He managed to eat a full ice-cream which was good to see.

We went back for his results this morning and the blood tests have shown he is suffering from Auto Immune Hemolytic Anemia, which basically means his red blood cells are being destroyed by his own body, there were also signs of Bilirubin which is also affecting his liver, not what we wanted to hear, so he is a very poorly Dobbie but is now on the right medication, so hopefully he will start to feel a little better soon. He's not out of the woods yet, but he is a little brighter today, and has managed another Mcflurry!

I'll be honest the memories of Jilly falling ill at Christmas time came flooding back, and I feared the worse. Louis has had such an impact on our lives that the thought of him not being here is unbearable. But I am pushing those thoughts out of my mind, and letting him have whatever he wants. I'll keep his blog updated until he is well enough to take over himself, I'm sure he won't want me on here for long, I even told him I'm let Olga on if he didn't start to get better soon and he snorted at me is disgust lol..

Love Louis Mum xxxx
