Look who's home for a few days!!!

Hi Everyone

I wish you could all see the smile on our faces…. We have our handsome boy home for a few days!!!

Both John and I had resigned ourselves overnight that we were probably going to have to say goodbye to Louis, as things were looking dire, however this morning’s call from Rutland changed that, Louis’s blood count had gone up overnight from 18% to 20%, which is the first time it’s gone up since he went in a week ago, they said he could come home for a couple of days. I could hardly contain myself when John called me at work, even though he kept telling me not to get too excited because he is still very poorly and its early days, I couldn’t help myself.

So at 16:30 at tonight whilst John was at Rutland House being talked through all of Louis’s medication (and there’s a lot)! the nurses were getting their last few cuddles for a couple days as Louis was getting ready to see his Dad. When he came out he saw a few dogs coming in for treatment and he couldn’t help himself, he gave 3 big woofs out, as if to say “See Ya!”. The nurse that been looking after him, walked him out to our car and John asked if he should lift him into the back, but as he said it and opened the door, Louis leap into the car and almost dragged the nurse in as well, clearly someone wanted to come home!

He looks a bit like a patchwork quilt, with all his bald patches, but we don't care.

Rutland House have advised we must take him back on Friday for a blood test to see how he’s doing, so our next milestone is Friday. I had to promise we would take him back lol.

We want to say huge thank you to everyone we know and to those we don’t, who have supported us during this really difficult time, you have all actually helped to give Louis a really good chance of a full recovery (yes I know, I’ve not to get excited, a day at a time) I’d love to name you all but I’m not sure it’s appropriate but you know who you are.

Of course a massive thank you to Rutland House who did actually save his life.

Finally, a super special thanks to all our friends and Louis’s friends at FOND, you are such a special charity! your support, kind words and constant faith in what we were doing mean the world to us, and to Louis.

No doubt Louis will be taking over his blog again in the next few days.

Thank you love

Louis’s Mum.

Hi Louis and family, I am soo pleased to read Louis is home and hope and prey for you all that good luck is on your side from now on. We also have a Doberman his name is Louie and about 18 months ago he became ill with the same thing as your louis, his red bloods were down to 6 and our vet said 4 and he wouldn't be here. He gave him a high dose of steroids 6 tablets a day which gradually increased his red blood cell count and after two weeks we were able to reduce them by half a tablet a week until he was weaned off them. I really thought we were going to loose him and transfusions were the next step if the steroids hadn't worked but thank God they did, he is now a three year old healthy big boy who is very lucky. I still check his chops every day to make sure they are nice and pink, he is loved to pieces and spoilt rotten but I will never forget his poorly time. when looking at the fond website i came across your Louis, my new life and was devastated, i have been checking your blogs daily since and am so happy to here the good news, stay strong louis and make them reds, you can do it.
Big big love, Caroline and louie x
