Hi Everyone..
We had to take Louis back to Rutland House today, a day
early because he was running out of some of his medication. He was due to go
back tomorrow but Mr Stefano agreed he needed to be seen today, so off we went
to St Helen’s.
When we walked into Rutland House Louis gave his normal
bark to let everyone know he was there, it was really busy but he managed to
make sure everyone in the waiting room stroked him and made a fuss of him.
When Mr Stefano came into the waiting room Louis spotted
him he ran over, it’s really nice to know Louis likes him so much, and clearly
trusts him. Mr Stefano gave him a quick check over in reception because there
were no rooms, and then took him off to into the back for a blood test.
It wasn’t long before Louis was dragging a young veterinary
nurse back into the waiting room, he looked full of beans. Mr Stefano called us
into a room and advised that Louis’s blood count had only gone up 1% to 20% and
he was rather disappointed as he was expecting more. He has arranged for his
blood sample to be sent to the labs tomorrow to check how his bone marrow is
behaving, we will get the results back tomorrow.
The test is going to confirm what stage of maturity the
red blood cells are at when his bone marrow releases them into his body, if it
shows that they are being released too early then he will need another procedure
called a Coombs test. I’m not too sure what that will show, but I do know they
have to harvest the bone marrow via a needle into the middle of his bone L. I’m
really hoping they won’t have to do this test because the thought of him having
to go through that is heart-breaking. So we've come away with another bag full of medication, and no doubt another sleepless night worrying about what the tests are going to show.
I guess I have convinced myself he was getting better,
and I know he’s not gotten any worse and he’s kind of holding his own, but I
could tell how disappointed Stefano was, the look on his face said it all to
me. Louis is sleeping now after being up on his feet for 2 hours, and I am
willing him with all my heart to start producing lots of red blood cells.
Love Louis’s Mum
